Turkish forum appeal to Azeris in the USA

Dear Friends,

As you may know US Administration is trying to lift Section 907 to the Freedom Support Act and maintain support to Azerbaijan. But Armenian lobby groups are trying to blockade these efforts and keep the Section 907 in power. I'm calling to all Turks and friends to support US Administration's efforts for lifting sanctions against Azerbaijan. Please send e-mails, faxes and phone calls to Congress and White House. As more as e-mails, faxes, phone calls we make the decision will follow on our favor. Please be quick and remember United We Stand!

Hoping to see happy end of this action,
Mr. Azer H.Hasret,
Member, Turkish forum Advisory Board

Dear President Bush,

In these difficult times for the USA some insensitive members of the US Congress are trying to scuttle your foreign policy in an insidious way.

I am sending this plea to you to draw your attention to a very important initiative, which is currently on the Senate floor for debates as well as to gain your support for its passage.
As you know, last week U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas introduced an amendment, calling for lifting of sanctions over Azerbaijan and Secretary of State Colin Powell addressed a letter to the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee too. This amendment came as a response to the terrible terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, DC.

An oil-rich country of Azerbaijan has been under American sanctions due to the Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act since 1992 which is unfair. As you may know in reality Armenia must be punished as an occupier and aggressor. The sanctions unfairly remain in force because of the efforts of the powerful Armenian lobby.

It is my humble opinion that these developments are proven to be actions against your foreign policy in the Caucasus and indirectly in the Middle East and Central Asia. Please Mr. President see to it that the Armenian interest does not spoil U.S. endeavours, and that, by helping Azerbaijan, you will be helping the United States of America and the BUSH FOREIGN POLICY around the world, especially in these perilous times.

Thank you Mr. President for listening to us, and God Bless you and the USA.

Dear Senator,

I am writing to you in connection with the amendment introduced to the U.S. Senate last week by Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas and Secretary of State Colin Powell's letter addressed to the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
The amendment calls for lifting of American sanctions against Azerbaijan prescribed in Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act. Azerbaijan has been under American sanctions since 1992 which is very unfair while Armenia itself must be punished due to its aggression against Azerbaijan occupation of 20% of its territories. The sanctions have remained unfairly in force because of the efforts of the powerful Armenian lobby in the US.

Azerbaijan is a crucial ally in US-led coalition against terrorism. Neighboring with Russia, Turkey and Iran, this pro-Western country can provide valuable transport routes to the US and its allies in the fight against terrorism. As an oil- and gas-rich country, independence and prosperity of Azerbaijan are also crucial for the viability of east-west energy routes from the Caspian region to the West. The two energy transport projects, one involving oil and the other gas, from Azerbaijan to Turkey have been strongly supported by the Clinton and Bush Administrations. The sanctions prohibit deeper US involvement in this country, jeopardize its independence from a resurgent Russia, and stymie the efforts of this country to establish closer ties with the West.

I urge you to support initiatives to lift sanctions against Azerbaijan.

Sincerely yours,

Ergun Kirlikovali,3029 S. Harbor Blvd.,Santa Ana, CA 92704, USA ,Phone: 714-434-0800, Fax: 714-434-0888
