"We fight for United Azerbaijan"

Faig Gazanfaroglu

The Committee for Protection of World Azerbaijanis' Rights (CPWAR) and the National Resistance Movement held September 22 at "Ayna-Zerkalo" press house a roundtable meeting "Current problems of the Southern Azerbaijan national movement and the ways how to settle them". In opening remarks, CPWAR Chairman Boyuk Rasuloglu said the relationships between the Southern and Northern Azerbaijan have reached such a rate that it is impossible to imagine them separately. As an example, he cited the visit of half a million Azerbaijani Turks to Babek castle two months ago pointing out that Azerbaijan's unification is already becoming a reality. According to B.Rasuloglu, the developments in the Southern Azerbaijan progress rapidly. "Our enemies feel it and become against the movement. The Persian chauvinism is also against the unification", B.Rasuloglu said noting that registration of organizations in Southern Azerbaijan has become problematic. He pointed out the pressure on Mahmudeli Chohragani, leader of Southern Azerbaijan national-liberation movement. According to B.Rasuloglu, the Armenians living in Southern Azerbaijan have become active. They met and decided to hinder Azerbaijani Turks' fight in the south. According to Akram Mishovdagli, one of the authors of the book "Southern Azerbaijan", some 30 million Turks live now in Iran. It means that

the greater part of Azerbaijani Turks live beyond Azerbaijan's borders. As stated by A.Mishovdagli, to disclose the Persian chauvinism, it is necessary to conduct intensive work in the Southern Azerbaijan. The Persian chauvinism tries to create split among the nations living in Iran. Professor Gulamrza Sebri Tebrizi also spoke to the event and expressed his standpoint regarding the national liberation movement in the Southern Azerbaijan. Other speakers to the event included Mirmahmud Mirelioglu, Chairman of APFP ("classics"), Prof. Nureddin Rzayev, poet Abbas Abdulla, Deputy Chairman of the World Azerbaijanis' Congress Teymur Eminbeyli, Head of Musavat Party Isa Gambar and others. The event participants adopted a resolution denouncing the combat of national- liberation movement in Azerbaijan, violation of rights of Mahmudeli Chohragani, Head of the movement. The resolution demands that the Azerbaijani Turks living in Iran get education in their mother tongue, have TV and radio channels in Azerbaijani, vacancies be created in Southern Azerbaijan, the Karabakh problem be considered the problem of not only Northern Azerbaijan, but world Azerbaijanis, all the assistance delivered to Armenia via Southern Azerbaijan's territory be blocked and Iranian-Armenian relationships be reconsidered until peace is established.

AZERBAIJAN SOCIETY OF AMERICA PRESS RELEASE #26

Azeri Americans mark the 83rd anniversary of the liberation of Baku

September 15th, 2001

On this day 83 years ago, allied forces of young and independent Azerbaijani Democratic Republic and Turkish detachments under the command of Nuri-pasha liberated the city of Baku from the evil and bloody regime of Baku Soviet and its temporary successor Central Caspian Dictatorship. September 15th, 1918 became an important turning point in the short history of first Azerbaijani independence. Baku, the eye of our homeland, has been liberated and the government of independent republic was able to move here from the town of Ganja.
This event was also important in our history because it brought an end to months of horrible violence and massacre brought upon Azeri people by the Bolshevik gangs of Stepan

Shaumyan and his Armenian Dashnak allies in Baku, Shemakha, Quba, and other Azeri towns. Even the famous Russian Bolshevik leader V.I. Lenin ironically admitted in one of his letters that Shaumyan turned Baku into Armenian hen-house. Organized Armenian gangs under Soviet and Dashnak slogans murdered 10,000 Azeri civilians just in the city of Baku on March 31st, 1918, thus starting the history of first Azeri genocide committed by Armenians. Crushed by Azeri-Turkish forces in September 1918, 26 heads of Bolshevik criminals, including Stepan Shaumyan, have fled Baku by sea but were captured and executed by British forces in Central Asian desert.
Today, ASA greets Azeris of the world and pays tribute to the souls of Azeri and Turkish soldiers that gave their lives for Azerbaijani independence.
