AFP: US concerned by "Iranian threats" in Caspian Sea

July 26 (AFP) - The United States said Wednesday it was "particularly concerned" by Iran's threat to use force in the Caspian Sea to enforce its territorial claims in the region.
"This is clearly inconsistent with the peaceful process under way in the Caspian Sea, in terms of demarcating the Caspian Sea, and that process has been under way for some time," said State Department spokesman Philip Reeker.
"And this incident could become a very serious incident," he added.
"We are particularly concerned about the reports ... that the Iranian gun boat used a threat of force in its effort to clear the survey ships from the area," said Reeker.
